Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • LinkedIn membership
    • 1
Create your LinkedIn profile. Outline details about your education, employment and professional affiliations. Include information about membership in industry and community organizations and provide details about your professional goals and objectives.
    • 2
Make a note on your profile of what you're there to accomplish, such as finding new customers, facilitating business partnerships or collaborating with others in your industry. This will help other people find you in a search.
    • 3
Upload your contacts to LinkedIn and allow the program to search for friends, colleagues and business associates who are also members of LinkedIn. The program will invite contacts to connect to you through the site. This will expand your network from your connections to your connections' connections and so forth.
    • 4
Take advantage of the LinkedIn feature that makes recommendations of other people you may know based on the industries or individuals you've previously added to your contact list or searched for. This feature will eventually begin making recommendations for introductions to other professionals in your field.
    • 5
Create or join LinkedIn groups that are aimed at helping members make profitable connections to one another. You can search groups by trade, industry or geographic region. Once you're a member of a group, you will be able to communicate with others, post links to your website and promote your business, which can translate to new sales.
    • 6
Use LinkedIn's member search features to pitch your services to individuals and businesses. For example, if you're a freelance writer, use the search feature to find publishers and media outlets that hire freelancers, and contact them directly.
    • 7
Advertise your company, its products and services by using LinkedIn's direct ad feature. This allows you to create custom, targeted advertising campaigns designed to attract customers and help you make money.
