Google’s Music Explorer now live in the Play Store for some users

Image
It was earlier this week Google let us in on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and some of tasty treats that would be debuting on Nexus 4. Google went over many of the new features, also demoing Music Explorer, a graphical music discovery tool for the Google Play Store. Well, it looks like you wont have to wait until Android 4.2 to try out Music Explorer for yourself, as Google has just flipped the switch enabling the feature for many Android users in the Play Store. Similar to something we’ve seen from the Microsoft Zune back in the day, Music Explorer introduces users to similar artists they’ve looked up in the Google Play Store using a snazzy UI. A similar option was always available in the Play Store, but it was never pretty as this. Let us know if it’s gone live in your Play Store! Thanks, Tommy!

Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet Could Begin Shipping As Early As Next Week

Image
Google was mum on an actual release date when they unveiled the Nexus 7, their flagship 7-inch tablet last week at Google I/O. We’ve all been left guessing when the tab would actually arrive (and if it would arrive before impending legal action), but some clues from around the net are hinting that it could be arriving as soon as next week. This coming from an email a customer received direct from Google saying they would be unable to cancel the order, as the ordered has already been processed, and shipment/delivery preparations have already gone into effect. What’s more, the listing for the Nexus 7 on Staples’ site notifies customers and would-be buyers that, although there is a limited quantity of the tablets available (we expect these to sell out fast ), the Nexus tablet is expected to ship between July 12th and July 17th (no earlier than July 13th). Shouldn’t be too much longer. Anyone pre-order one? Two? [ Android Forums | Staples | XDA ]

Sprint’s Nexus S 4G back on Google’s list of AOSP supported devices

Image
How about that? After removing CDMA devices including the Nexus S 4G from the list of those officially supported as AOSP developer handsets, Google has reinstated the phone amongst its GSM brethren. Whatever issues existed with the Sprint device, they have now been resolved, and Google is releasing binaries with official support for CDMA and WiMAX. Posed with a questions about whether or not Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus would receive the same treatment, AOSP guru Jean-Baptiste Queru said there are still plenty of issues to resolve with the “toro” build of Android that start with rights to distribute for CDMA/LTE and continue to other technical issues revolving around the phone’s hardware and software. Still, the support for the Nexus S 4G bodes well for the future of CDMA devices in terms of AOSP support. [ Google Groups via Reddit ]
